Study before you scroll
Pay a toll of thinking. Then scroll.
Gate the apps that eat your time. Opening one costs a few questions — from arithmetic or your own study material — or real minutes in a learning app. Built on Apple Screen Time. No accounts, nothing leaves your phone.

Three taps to a better default
Toll doesn't ban anything. It just makes the thing you reach for cost a little of the thing you're supposed to be doing.
Gate your apps
Pick the apps that pull you in — Instagram, TikTok, Safari, whatever yours are. Toll uses Apple's Screen Time to put a gate in front of them.
Pay the toll
Opening a gated app shows the toll. Answer a few questions in Toll — multiple choice or typed — or spend real minutes in a learning app of your choice.
The window opens
Pay once and the app is yours for 15, 30, or 60 minutes. When the window closes, the gate comes back on its own.
Made for whatever you're studying
Your own material
Paste notes, slides, or a chapter into any chatbot with the prompt Toll gives you, and import the result as a deck. Multiple choice comes with it.
Study-time toll
Prefer to learn in Duolingo, Anki, or Hello Interview? Pick it as your study app and real time there unlocks the window — no quiz at all.
Graded, not stuck
Every round ends with a score and the cards you missed. Retry them if you like; a bad round never traps you.
Toll hours
Enforce only when it matters — weekdays nine to five, evenings, overnight. Outside your schedule, everything opens freely.
Streaks and accuracy
A streak for showing up, a 7-day chart, accuracy by subject, and milestones — the small wins that keep you paying the toll.
Private by design
Apple's Screen Time runs on your phone, and so does Toll. No accounts, no servers, no analytics on your study data. Your decks never leave the device.
Toll Pro
Gating two apps with arithmetic is free, forever. Pro adds unlimited apps, your own decks, multiple choice, the study-time toll, toll hours, and your full results history.

Questions
Why don't the questions appear on the lock screen itself?
Apple only lets apps show a fixed message on the gate — no buttons that quiz you. So the gate tells you what the toll is, and the questions open inside Toll. Pay it, and the app you tapped opens for the whole window.
Can Toll see what I do in other apps?
No. Apple's Screen Time works with opaque tokens — Toll never learns the names of the apps you gate, and it can't see anything you do inside them. The study-time toll only receives a signal that your chosen app has reached the time you set.
Why is the study-time minimum 15 minutes?
That's Apple's floor for usage tracking, not ours. If you want a shorter toll, use questions — a 3-question round takes about a minute.
Where does my material come from?
You. Create cards by hand, or paste your notes into any chatbot with the prompt Toll provides and import the JSON it returns. Arithmetic drills are built in and need nothing.
Can I get around it?
Yes — you could delete Toll, and we'd rather be honest about that. Toll is a nudge for people who want one, not a parental control. Most people find a few questions is exactly enough friction to make them ask whether they really wanted to open the app.
Android?
iPhone only for now. The study-time toll depends on Apple's Screen Time APIs, which have no equivalent on Android yet.
